I have 2 males that will only eat live so they get well stunned live until I can convince them otherwise. 1 came eating live, 1 came eating nothing. They are no messier than those who eat F/T. I don't feed them large prey animals, they each get adult mice as their largest meal. Not much blood to drip there. I can see a med rat making a bit of a mess, but I stick to mice with my chondros so I wouldn't know. Buy your first chondros from someone who's established them on F/T and you'll be all set.

As for temperament, mine range from those who totally ignore the maid service to those who appear to enjoy coming out for a visit. They tend to be feisty at night so its wise to leave them alone then, but they're often just fine during the day.
