Most of us cherry pick the prettiest (low black, no crossovers, etc.) offspring to breed. After a few generations, many of the traits of the animals seen in the wild (high black, aberrant patterns, etc.) are gone and the traits we like (low or high band count, red snouts, etc.) remain.
