I noticed some questions in an earlier post and thought I would field them here. We have 2 ch Claudius (now adult) and one wc adult female.
The 2 cbs were raised in an aquatic setup that got increasingly larger as the turtles grew. They started out in a 15g with about 6" of water and a driftwood haulout that served also as a visual barrier. They almost never left the water, but clambered animatedly about on the haulout in subsurface positions. This taxon is a remarkable aquatic acrobat, swimming normally, on their sides, and even inverted. As they grew thet were graduated to a 20g long, then to a 40g, and as adults they are now in a 125g low setup. This has a footprint of 2' x 6' and the water has depth of 10 inches and is filtered. A sandy resting area of 1' x 1.5' is provided. It has seldom been accessed by either ch individual but is regularly accessed by the wc female. There are several large pieces of submerged driftwood in the water section. The diet of this group is nightcrawlers and prekilled fuzzy mice. We have had no successful breeding yet, but hope springs eternal.
