Chica and Lupe have both been gravid again. It's Chica's third time this year and Lupe's second. The first time that Chica laid, Lupe had not yet shown any breeding signs, even though Lupe was the more-grown of the two. The second time, Chica only produced a couple of slugs, but Lupe produced six fertile eggs. What was interesting was that Lupe stayed gravid for over a week longer than she should have, and didn't finally commit to a laying area until after Chica had dug a tunnel there. Once Chica had a nest, Lupe was in there laying her own eggs before the day was even over. Now, I think I see the same pattern again. Chica is almost ready, and is alternating before eating and tunneling. Lupe's normally terrifying appetite has suddenly dropped off and she's digging nonstop in the same spot where Chica was. Funny how she didn't feel nearly the same urge to lay them until Chica showed her where, though.
