My small scarlet snake (about 20g) has recently developed a significant 'taper'.

The forebody (from the head to the heart) is slim, and the body becomes thicker at the heart and remains thicker for its length. The remainder of the body does not seem overly thick, just thick in comparison to the forebody. Although the tapering is pretty sudden, there does not seem to be a hard lump at the heart area. The snake seems in good health, and is behaving normally.

This is a long-term captive, and has been fed 1-2g of chicken egg/herptivite/nutribac every 1-2 weeks for four years.

Too much supplements? Mild obesity? An internal problem - something enlarged? Any thoughts?

If the tapering didn't seem so sudden, I wouldn't be asking. I would just say the snake was well-fed.

Thanks.
k
