never have any problems besides larger snakes (boa constrictors and large basins) using them as a perch a night and unscrew them a bit. I have had 20 cages with exposed bulbs for several years.
and I have to feed basins after lights out because they will strike at the hottest thing in the inclosure instead of the f/t prey item, that's no problem with chondro's though they react more to movement than heat.

this kind of lighting isn't the best for life plants though.
