that would depend on the age and size of the cham, type of feeders, how the cage is setup, plus the experience of the keeper. xanth neonates (ie baby jacksons)do not make good starter chams regardless of cage size. anyone with experience to keep a baby jacksons would already have an idea of cage size required , but just to satisfy your curiosity , a newborn to two month old jacksons would be ok in a PROPERLY setup 10g aquarium, after that aquariums are no longer a viable option for keepers with only moderate experience ./ 2-3 months, a single baby jackson should be in a cage no larger than 12"x12"x16", properly kept baby jacksons can almost double in size every month, months three and four, a cage 16"x16"x24" would be almost too large, month 4-6 an 18x18x24" cage is ideal, after 6 months they should have a cage 24"x18"x36" after 9 months they should have a cage 24"x24"x48" young baby jacksons have a reputation for dropping dead without appearent reason even in the hands of experienced keepers and are not recomended as starter chams regardless of cage size note; there are exceptions to these cage sizes for keepers with substantial montane experience / ie knowledge of their issues and how to deal with them. the picture shown is of a 9-1/2 baby jackson's xantholophus born 06-29-09
