After recently acquiring a carpet python(glee!!) I'm starting to wonder her makeup...the woman I got(is it rude to say saved?) her from could only tell me 'I got him(probing shows female!! only goes in 4 scales!!) at Pet****, they said he's from Australia"
Just wow....that's all she could tell me about this little one. So now I turn to the forums. From what little information I could gleam from the prior owner my carpet is roughly 2 years old, she is only 3 foot and not much thicker then a corn of the same length...underweight, I know. She'd been feeding her 2 rat fuzzies every other week - not so bad considering they're at least rats. Today I offered her(snake her) what I thought would be a challenge in the form of a small rat(an overgrown hopper really), but it didn't take 10 minutes for it to be dispatched, and she'd eaten only 4 days prior.
Going back to the question of genetics -- roughly at what age are carpets at their 'adult' coloration? Anyone with JCP able to show pictures at different stages? My first thought when looking at my gal is IJJ sibling as her pattern's all over the place and her darker bands are more of a deep brown then a black...but her tan/creamish areas are really quite yellow for an IJ.
I'll post some cruddy cell phone pictures soon, I was able to take some both indoors and out before feeding.
Thanks for reading my ramblings!
