I have a huge male black blood that I have kept for the past 5 years. He has been very good natured and easy to handle. At times he would give the typical short blood hiss when first picked up but never struck or bit.

About 4 days ago he shed and when I took him out for cage cleaning he hissed a lot. Since then he goes into a defensive posture when I ente the snake room and hisses constantly when I am near his cage. Last night he completely refused food amd this is one of those snakes that will eat anytime-even in full shed. All of the husbandry is proper with no changes in temp, humidity, cage, or surroundings.

I am thinking this must be a breeding season response. I have no female bloods in the room. I have heard that during the breeding season male constrictors will go off feed and act more aggressive. In all the yers I have kept boas and pythons none of mine ever did this. Your thoughts are appreciated. Bill.
