catching wild garters?

i want to catch some wild eastern garters and i wanna start breeding some garters.what do they eat in the wild,theres no frogs in the area and no acssesible fish.will a captive bred snake breed with a wild one?

thanks and i dont usually write so sloppy but im feeling a bit lazy lol
