One sure way to tell is that soon after its demise the

limbs will stiffen as will the tail soon after.



If he is still limp as you say, chances are poor but it's

possible that it is at death's door. If it is still alive,

the possibility is slim to none that it will improve from

this poor state you described. If it is, you might see

some very shallow and timely breathing by observing

just behind the front legs to see if the area expands and

then slowly deflates. It is hard to see as the air intake

will be minimal and very slow. Often you think you can

see the tinniest movement but it's mostly wishful thinking.



If you wait long enough the odor of death will let you

know soon enough.



If you are still not at all sure, take it a vet as a last

resort if this will give you peace of mind and closure.



This is a very sad post and it was really difficult for me
