Posted by: boxienuts at Tue Dec 15 17:41:52 2009 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by boxienuts ] Alot of people will swear by canisters or wet/dry filters, but I personally have been raising and breeding fish and turtles for 30 yrs and have used every filter ever invented, yet for the past 15 yrs have used NOTHING but undergravel filters and will never, ever use anything but. The real key to success regardless of what type of filter you use is consistent, regular weekly 50-75% water changes ) in a well ESTABLISHED aquarium with well ESTABLISHED and BALANCED nitrification bacteria in an 1-1.5 inch gravel bed. If you don't have perfectly clean hard well water like I do that doesn't need any treatment what so ever, you might do smaller water changes, say 25-50% but the water changes still need to be every week religiously, period, and do NOT ever overfeed. Gravel cleaning 1/2 the aquarium every other water change. [ Reply To This Message ] [ Subscribe to this Thread ] [ Show Entire Thread ] | ||
