I searched the web, and found similar info. Habitat shots show exactly the habitat I was in.

I can see where these animals would be difficult to find by the same means that calif mtn kings are found in the southern mountains. In the latter, rock flakes and fissures abound. With the habitat I saw in Sonoma county, most of the rocks did not have the flakes in abundance. It was mostly grassy hills with rocky outcrops protruding among trees. Filtered sunlight. Lots of streams.

Miles of habitat, all private land. I can see how this ssp is in little danger of much collection.
