I keep my females and males in 10 gallon tanks, with plexiglass covering the top of the screen tanks to keep the heat in. I vent the tops if the temperature goes above the recommended temp. I've always used uth's with all my snakes, and i've never had a problem with any of them getting belly burns. Of course, i'm also very ocd about their safety, so i put tank liners over the bottom of the tanks before putting the substrate in
