Firebellys often spend a considerable amount of time on land when moved to a new enclosure. Over time they eventually start going into the water.

Also, since winter is approaching, some types of newts spend the winter months on land before returning to the water in spring. This might be what's going on.

Firebelly newts are toxic. I would not keep another type of salamander with them.
