The best way to tell is the 1st and 3rd upper labial touch on the eastern and do not on the Texas. I have had Texas indigos years ago that were almost impossible to tell the difference. But in general...the western indigo will not have the red on the chins like the easterns as the westerns tend to be orangish yellow and will have more mottling on the body with a tinge of brown to them when seen in the light. Both are magnifecent animals!!!
