...is the image we portray. If the general public sees us as a bunch of weirdos, geeks, rednecks, freaks, etc., this hurts our cause.
For example: I do reptile presentations for local elementary school classes. While preparing a proposal to send to other schools to expand my business, I asked for input from the teachers and staff I already work with. One of the main suggestions they had was to provide a picture of myself so that other teachers could see that I'm not "a weirdo" (their term, not mine). They said there is automatically an image in everyone's minds of what a "snake person" looks like, and it's scary.
Far be it from me to criticize how one wears their hair or what is on their t-shirt or how they speak. But an image of professionalism could go a long way to helping an uninformed public realize that were are normal people.
I hope this message doesn't offend anyone out there. It's just an observation.
