>>Has anyone ever used legos to build a basking platform? Should I be concerned with any melting issues? Any ideas of a cool homemade platform that is easy to do?>>

It's make from plastic "egg crate" light diffuser screen. Cut it to size in three pieces, and use a Dremmel tool to smooth the very sharp edges so that they're safe. Use electrical zip ties to connect the pieces. You can use thise for almost any sized aquarium or turtle and make it any height you need, although for really large turtles you'll want to reinforce the center piece with another section of egg crate or some PVC pipe or similar. A big piece of egg crate (enough for two or three 55 gallon tank basking platforms) is $10 at a home improvememt store, a big box of zip ties (enough for about 20 platforms) is about $5. A Dremmel is about $80, depending on what you get, but you can use a Dremmel for lots of things around the home. If you make a mistake, cut the electrical ties and redo them.
