I actully do not suplement my tegu, he gets all he needs from his food. Just like a raw food diet for cats or dogs the key is variety. Right now he is sleeping so no food, and when i have someone watching him he gets rats and a monitor diet kibble (he only eats it when he gets really hungery). When im hear he gets rodents 1-2 times a week, fish once a week, and then a misc iteam this can be any of the fallowing:ground meat with ca powder, chicks, crawfish, egg, shrimp, frozen raw diet dog food (high end/human grade). Each meal he also gets some kind of season fruit his fav are strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, catalope, mashed apples and papaya. I don't feed insects as a main part of the diet, for one they are too small and second just not enough nutrtion for a large animal (ok so roaches and hornworms have been a meal for him a few times). I go use inscets more as treats same as some of the commercial diets so treat wise he gets: earthworms (like spigetti) roaches, hornworms, silkworms, superworms, nature zone monitor/tegu diet, zoo med tegu/monitor diet, freze dried dragon and tortise foods... like i siad these are things variety. Never had a problem with my adult tegu and MBD even when he was without his UVB light. Also i feed whole, so when i say fish i mean i get samll trout or tilapia from my local store and give him it whole (bones, guts and eye, all of it) chicken same thing i get small chicks (i tend to pluck them a bit just because if i don't Bosco will do it and cause feathers to go everywhere). Also the frozen raw dog food come in rabbit and the company has assured me that they use the whole rabbit, not just the meat, even if this isn't true this isn't a main part of the diet. And this is the idea behind my diet plan, if one item is lacking in Ca or some other eliment he will get it from another item on the menu.

I did have problem with my baby tegu. I know everyone loved ground turkey with supliments but i hate to use this on my tegus. So i used mainly pinkies and inscets until she could be on fuzzies. Problem was my Ca that i was using was expired and was no longer balanced. I got a new contantior and all signs she had of MBD went away (she had the hind leg twitched for a day).

So sorry about the long post but it takes awhile to explain what i do with my tegus sometimes.
