I have not observed this in my kingsnakes (MBK's) but my bullsnake shows this every season, in a climate controlled room as well. If your king is a male, than I'd agree this is the most likely reason for the behavior. In my limited experience on the topic, I'd also say that it's more apparent in wild caught animals.
