I am pretty sure I read that they prefer to be set up more like a lizard, including foliage for hiding, and UVB being essential. That may have been the missing element days gone by. Even thought they may have been feeding, the lack of UVB may have contributed to early demise due to not assimilating the required nutrients from the food items.
