I hear ya. Trying to guess locality on coachwhips by appearance is pretty much an exercise in futility as they are such a variable snake, and different localities can mimic each other quite a bit. I've seen animals from Colorado that could have passed for west texas easily, eastern coachwhips from texas that were red like a western, eastern coachwhips from Florida that were brown like a western, and of course the brown/yellow phase, which can be anything from Kansas to New Mexico. Those in the picture seem to have a hint of red to them, pretty cool.
