The larger side-necked turtles would come up, grab them by the leg, and slowly back into deeper water, drowning them, then eating them. On a larger scale, not all of the explorers returned from the Galapagos Islands, right? Try budging a 400lb tortoise that has a grip on your ankle, while others come "racing" to the feast.
