(A book over them will do) First look low, under shelves, etc. then high, although higher than cage level is a little bit unlikely unless there are some good platforms for jumping nearby. Watch at night for his activity, too. In the daytime it'll be easy to do a thorough search, since he'll be sleeping and can't move while you're searching.
