should i get a female for my male?

ive had him for 8 years and untill last year he lived with a grey tree frog, they were buddies and actually hung out together all the time, sounds weird but whatever.. so the tree frog died from old age about a year ago and now i think my guy is lonely. hes healthier than ever but doesnt bark anymore, looks bored.
would he be happier with a mate? i am not interested in breeding them. Would it make sense to get another one or not?
