After having kept both, I would recommend a retic. In my experience, they are much more predictable than burms. While they have had a reputation for being quick to bite in the past, many of those available now are pretty mellow. In addition, retics are pretty good at conveying when they don't want to be bothered. The ones I've had would always warn before a strike with either body language or hissing. The burms I've kept gave little to no warning before a bite.
Also, it seems like you put some thought into this, but I cannot stress enough the importance of safety when working with these larger species. Make sure the enclosure is plenty large, and I recommend using a feed door. I built a trap door into the tops of the enclosures that housed my larger animals. Food goes in a lock box on top of the door. Door is slid out to allow the food to drop down to the snake. It is amazing at how quickly they begin to "learn" the difference between feeding time and maintenance time while using this method. ----- "He who would stifle debate rather than engage in it, does so at the expense of his integrity and credibility"
