Males will have a slightly broader head than females, but the difference is not very obvious. A lot of the field guides also say that males tend to have darker / more black edging to the bands. I don't think that this is a real reliable indicator from what I've seen with mine. If they're at all upset, males will usually evert their hemipenes so flip your catches over and see if you get a peak.



These guys are a little different in terms of breeding. Breeding will take place in the summer / early fall (August-September), then the following spring (about now) the female will lay eggs. I've had good luck with mine just cycling in the house. The room they're in gets a little cooler in the winter and there is plenty of outside light coming in that seems to be enough for them to cycle. If your female is a wc, you should set up a moist hide in case she bred before you got her.



I incubate the eggs at room temperature (low 70's) in moist (not wet) vermiculite. They usually hatch after ~60 days.
