Back when I kept many collareds, I used pure astaxanthin for my collareds. I'd say I saw no distinct differences. I also tried a few ground fish foods that had different carotenoids in them such as spirulina, blue green algae, and asta...Never saw any distinct differences. For the asta, I fed it direct to the lizards be placing it in a dish with the superworms...I also gut loaded the crickets and superworms.
The cool thing was when I was raising crickets, you could actually see the red inside the crickets when they would fill up on it. The astaxanthin was used as a color enhancer in (I believe) salmon to give the flesh a more red color.
there are a couple products by Nekton...I think it is Nekton Rep-geld maybe...used for birds and also they have some for reptiles. At this stage, I don't buy into it. I think best color are found in reptiles that are kept outdoors regardless of diet.
Kind regards,
John
