Posted by: megalon at Sat May 15 17:02:16 2010 [ Report Abuse ] [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by megalon ] usually boxies have to hibernate(especially the males),in order to be productive.i put mine in a little kiddie pool from wallyworld,a little over 6' across,maybe 2' deep.you know,the cheap($10 or so) heavy plastic ones.i dump 7 or 8 bags of cheap topsoil into it(no additives or fertilizers,just plain topsoil),add 2 water dishes(actually 2 large pyrex casserole dishes,9"x13",and let them go.they'll bury themselves down,and i usually won't see them for a couple months,unless there's a warm spell.always provide water,dehydration is one of the leading causes of death during hibernation.
