Generally, I've noticed that when I move one of snakes into a larger enclosure IF they display some sort of behavioral or attitude change it is usually due to stress of some sort.



Figuring out what, exactly, is causing the stress can be difficult, but from what you described it sounds like he is simply a little overwhelmed from the extra space you've provided. You can either switch him back to his old enclosure or find a way to eliminate some of the open space in his new home.



Extra hides are good, but you'll also want to reduce the open areas OUTSIDE of the hides. A simple way of doing this is to add more cage "furniture". In the past, I've gone down to my local hobby store and purchased some of their realistic looking fake plants. (Pet store plants are going to cost you double or triple the price simply because their is a frog or lizard on the label.)



I like to find the dense "bushy" clumps of plants. These can be arranged or cut to size however you like. Possibly hang some from the sides and back of the enclosure. The grassy or bushy plants can simply be anchored to the floor of the cage somehow and this will provide some places for your snake to "shelter in" while he is out and about.
