Bill is absolutely correct in that the main active ingredient as Permethrin, is identical to that in PAM, and is in the same concentration as well. And for you chemistry geeks, the cis/trans ratio for Permethrin in Equate is also very close to that used in PAM. However, Equate uses a slight amount of petroleum distillate as a carrier and that is really about the only significant difference. Because of that, take extra care to see that the spray or residue does not come into direct contact with the snake.

I used it sucessfully many years ago by spraying the empty cage interior and letting it set for 30 minutes. I then wiped out the residue with paper towels and then sprayed the exterior of the cage letting it air dry only. The cage was then substrated and the snake returned to the cage. The water bowl is placed in the following day. I had excellent results with no health issues, even with smaller snakes. As Bill also mentioned, it may take a few attempts and is not an immediate fix, but is safe and very effective if used properly.
