This doesn't sound like the case here and I agree that a vet visit is essential. Keep him ultra clean, in a sterile type enclosure until the vet has further advice. The tissue underneath should be kept moist, but this isn't really much of a problem for aquatics. If you find he's basking a tonne, then perhaps put on some polysporin ointment.
