i think the maternal genes tend to strongly influence the basic anatomy were as the fraternal genes influence more intangible characteristics. i wouldnt be surprised if most carpalls have been of fraternal ball blood line which is why yours look the way the do. i also wouldnt be surprised if the colors change significantly as they age.
