I have a male C. barbatus that started soaking himself the past few weeks. He sits almost fully emersed with only his head out of the water, like a Shinasaurus. I origianally had a small water dish in with him and misted his enclosure 1-2 time daily until he started trying to get his whole body into the small dish. I replaced it with a larger shallow dish and continued to mist and now he sits like this for a couple hours per day. I have observed him soaking in cooler and warmer temps, he still activly drinks water off the sides of his cage. Could this be "cloacal drinking"? Has anyone observed this behavior before in Chamaeleolis? Just thought I'd mention this to hear other thoughts.
