Just a couple of points not mentioned in the article:

#1) Although the AZ Poison Control Center is involved in the search for new coral snake antivenin, it is actually the Florida Poison Information Network that will be taking the investigational lead in a new antivenin since the Eastern Coral species accounts for more recorded bites annually and is attributed to actual mortality.

#2) Although Wyeth discontinued production of antivenin, a large quantity of antivenin remains which will expire in October 2010. The Florida Poison Information Network is in direct contact with Pfizer and is trying to get all available antivenin out into hospitals rather than in a warehouse.
