I am new to horned lizards. I have my lizards in a large storage tub, raised up to eye height with peepholes, which I found to be very effective at making my horned lizards believe that I was not there. I have been feeding them small crickets, waxworms, a few mealworms, and ants from antsalive. They were eating only sporadically at first, but really picked up after I raised the tub and began feeding the ants.
Antsalive had been sending me a darker ant, with a little red, which the horned lizards really liked. Then I ran out of ants and found that they really liked waxworms and with the goal of fattening them up perhaps I went overboard. Then the ants came, and they looked mostly red. My horned lizards are not impressed which is depressing because I ordered three thousand of them, and they are all the redder ants.
So does anyone know what the old ants were and what the new redder ants are? Has anyone had similar experiences with antsalive?

Also, on a sidenote, one of my females is very very plump. Is there a way to determine if she is gravid?
Thank you in advance.
