with small kids you may want to look at something other than an Iguana. Tail whips HURT and can be strong enough to break bones. No matter how "tame" one may seem you can't trust the children not to ACCIDENTLY do something that could invoke a bit, scratch or whip. Please think through it carefully (as you seem to be already). Gathering information before hand is critical I would tend to look at something other than in iguana as a family pet to interact with children.
