Red foots love insects! And they have a specialized diet that is very different from the high-fiber diet of many other popular torties. I wouldn't recommend feeding them crickets in their indoor habitat because if they don't eat them, the crickets will pick on them. Tortoises can be really quick when they want to be. One of my RFs caught and ate a fly in the yard. Red Foots need protein. I give mine insect protein once a week and low-fat, low-fiber animal protein once every 2-3 weeks. A trick with the crickets is putting them in the fridge for 5 min or so. They won't freeze, they just become slow and it's easier for our torties to catch. It's really adorable watching them get so excited over bugs and gobbling them up. I highly recommend it.
