"yes, it's been done. yes, the amel gene is compatible between getula and central american triangulum.

google jurassic milks for more information on this mix"

The amel trait in Jurassics came from a cal king. Which was in turn bred to a florida king. then that hybrid florida was bred to the honduran.

So to answer the OP original question. NO. Amel genes are not all compatiple acoss sub specif and species lines. Some amel genes don't line up. ..In other words if you breed to amel genes from cal kings together you may get normals het for both types of amel genes.

As far as the amel trait in hondurans being complatiple (allelic0 with cal king/Florida or any other. it has not been done yet. But it would not surprise me if it did.

Also i wonder if the hypo in brooks is allelic with the hypo in hondos.

bottom line no boday has done those yet that i know of.

i bred a ws blackrat to the ghost everglades and all the babies came out whitesided. So it is possible even though gentecists will tell you it is like 1 in a billion chance.however I beleive that most N. American colubrids all came (evolved)from a southern colubrid. So they are related in some way and probably a lot more recent than people want to beleive. That also makes it possible a western colubrids recessive traits could be alleic with a western colubrid-staright across all spp lines.

All this alleic stuff seems very improbable but it has been proven on some varieties that they do share the same traits. this would be impossible unless the snakes all came from one ancestoral S. american snake and split up into many spp/

. More breeding experiments need to be done. So go at it!
