Red Foot Substrate

Has anyone tried using the crushed walnut shells as substrate? I used to use them for my beardie and I'm considering transferring my uromastyx over to them, but I was wondering how the torts would do. I have them on large pieces of bark right and they are doing very well - just looking to switch it up.
