A Visit to the VET asap is the best idea. It DOES happen when on sand, sometimes when they either try to itch some dry shed off of their eye or scratch an annoying cricket off of their head.... Sand will fling up into their eye and cause a slight infection. They will more than likely prescribe you a Sterile Antibiotical Ointment.
