TIMES OF INDIA (New Delhi) 23 November 10 Crocodile enters Narmada village, causes panic (Yogesh Pareek)
Bharuch (TNN): It took the forest department officials two hours to catch a wild crocodile, which had sneaked into the residential areas of Limdi village in Narmada district, but this small period on Tuesday was hours of absolute panic for the villagers. The crocodile was large, weighing about 220 kg, and became unusually aggressive when some villagers tried to push it back to the river.
Limdi village is situated on the bank of Sardar Sarovar reservoir in Narmada district. Soon after noticing the crocodile in residential areas, the village sarpanch informed the forest department of Narmada district. The crocodile, said the forest department officials, proved a tough nut to crack.
"Some villagers had tried to push the crocodile back into water and this probably infuriated the reptile. It became wild and started attacking whoever came in its sight. After we reached the village, we used a long bamboo stick to push the crocodile back, but the reptile was too big and strong for that. Finally, we trapped it in a net and took to a safer place in Sardar Sarovar," said the forest department officials.
