NORTHERN TERRITORY NEWS (Brisbane, Australia) 24 November 10 Death wish dog in croc cage invasion (Nigel Adlam)
A dog with a death wish has miraculously survived after breaking into an enclosure full of crocodiles.
Woof the red heeler was bitten several times before clambering on to a shelf and waiting to be rescued.
The salties had razor-sharp teeth, but were only 1m long.
The dog's owner, police sergeant Sean Stanley, said it was lucky his pet didn't stumble into a breeding pen housing a huge bull croc.
"It would have been all over red rover then," he said.
Woof is a timid soul and tries to run off after every flash of lightning.
A couple of years ago he fled during a storm and was missing for six weeks.
Mr Stanley, 37, of Humpty Doo, said the 12-year-old dopey dog was finally found living on a shelf at Crazy Clarks in Palmerston - 15km away.
"He had somehow walked to Palmerston, got into the shopping centre and taken up residence in the shop."
Woof went walkabout again during last Wednesday's terrifying storm.
He was found two days later inside the croc pen at the nearby Darwin Crocodile Farm on the Stuart Highway.
"The dog crawled into the enclosure and the crocs must have snapped at him because he's got several bite marks.
"He was found by one of the keepers."
Mr Stanley's children, Tara, six, and four-year-old Taj are delighted to have Woof home again.
"They love the silly old thing," said Mr Stanley.
The family does its best to keep Woof indoors when the weather turns wild.
