Gator and Gar

i know someone who is getting rid of a gar, which i was told is a florida gar, my gator who is roughly 12 inches is set up in a 75 gallon tank right now, i was thinking about putting the gar in with the gator only because the gar is the same exact size. is this a mistake or should the two be fine, not sure what to do yet so im looking for some insight.
