A lot depends on where you live and the weather conditions, as well as the age of the cham. It is also a bit controversial for some keepers. Very young juveniles can start off in a tank, but at some point you may end up with a screen cage because of the size and overall dimensions the cham will need. Actually, there are lots of great discussions, ideas, photos, and opinions about cham caging at the Chameleonforums.com site that I'd suggest reading first. There is a whole subforum on housing that may help you decide what will work best in your particular place. Some keepers always use screen cages, others opt for modified tanks (or solid sided enclosures), and others like variations on both.
