For wood enclosures, I like to seal the inside of the enclosure with Thompsons water sealer or comp. They are sold with tints(stain) or without. Very easy to work with.

Then I like to get a piece of material cut to size for the bottom of the unit. I get them at Tap Plastics, styrene or whatever you like. Styrene is super inexpensive, but white in color. If the bottom is not seen, because of substrate, etc. covering it then it will not matter. I use 100% silicone to seal it all around the seams where it meets the wood walls, as well as some under it to act as an adhesive.

The other advantage of the styrene is that it is somewhat flexible, and since it is cut to size this flexibility allows you to insert it easily enough. Hope this helps.
