Just dug up 4 eggs that one of my Eastern females laid tonight, nesting quite a bit earlier than normal - usually here it is late June and into July. Possibly these were eggs that over-wintered inside her, from last year. She had attempted to nest last night, but stopped with a hole nearly finished.

This year I have made an elevated nesting site out of builders sand, and sure enough, that is where she laid. MUCH easier digging them up, with much less chance of damaging the eggs.

I posted pictures of her brood from last year under the heading "Strange How They Sometimes Grow..."
