So where do color morphs ("mutations", "phenotypes" fit into this scenario?
I'd argue any of the common recessive traits are the equivalent of small-production-run car models: Automakers do sometimes produce only a handful of (numbered) cars with certain engine/transmission combinations, or colors, or other limited-edition specifications. Classic car owners tend to prize these because they're rare, and because they represent something authentic but uncommon.
