Hites are not fun in any way. And they keep coming back like zombies. I have heard that dormant mite eggs can hatch up until a year later. Also small populations of mites can exist undetected that suddenly explode in an infestation. The live in cycles. New mites can be brought in by a number of ways and they are good at traveling. Loose substrates, especially bark, will harbor mites. Though snake mites are species specific, they will hitch a ride on humans. A trip to a pet shop or reptile show can bring them home. Live rodents can carry them. Any reptile supplies received from a vendor that also sells snakes can add the joy of mites in an order.
The predator mites sound like a wonderful and safe way to rid the mites and are said to be highly effective. I wonder if they eat the eggs also or are thorough in seeking out the eggs. I have used Provent A Mite for many years and later Equate Bedding spray from Walmart, with excellent results, no ill effects, and no mites for years. Either spray will kill all life stages of mites including their eggs. Bill ----- ...three years ago it was just another snake cult... The Retic is King. Anacondas-the other Dark Side.
