Sounds like you have two females. Popping should only be used with pythons on neonates one month or less in age. Sub-adults and adult carpets can be probed accurately by the standard procedure as with most other python species, but one should be extra careful and not force the probe. As with Diamond pythons, female Carpets could be prone to tearing and over penetration. I always carefully probe both sides twice to be certain.
